— Nick to Julie in Edge of Great]]

Nick is a main character on Julie and the Phantoms and the long-time crush of Julie Molina.

He is portrayed by Sacha Carlson.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Nick was born sometime between 2004-2005. He has an unnamed younger sister, who pulled him into "princess dance parties." Not much is known about Nick's childhood or homelife.

Once entering high school, Nick was placed in Los Feliz High School's special music program for musically talented students where he plays the guitar. He is in the same grade as Julie, Flynn, and Carrie.

At some point he became Carrie's boyfriend.

Season One[]

Nick helps Carrie pass out flyers for Dirty Candy's performance at the spirit rally. Later, in class, he performs a solo on the electric guitar. The music teacher congratulates him and tells him his performance was almost as impressive as the winning goal he scored in an earlier lacrosse game. (Wake Up)

When Dirty Candy performs Wow, Nick cheers for them. Nick is then shown cheering for Julie and the phantoms' performance of Bright, along with the rest of the school. (Bright)

Afterwards, Nick comes up to Julie, complimenting her performance, only for their conversation to be interrupted by a snide remark from Carrie, who is still in her Dirty Candy wig and outfit. Nick tries to intervene and subtly redirect Carrie to leave Julie alone by mentioning their next class. However, Julie and Carrie continue exchange, with Julie's comebacks falling flat and Carrie smugly walking away.

Nick tells Carrie that what she said was 'cold,' pointing out that Carrie and Julie used to be good friends. Irritated, Carrie tells Nick that she earned her position as first vocal chair, and that she worked hard on her songs and dance routines. She points out the unfairness of Julie not performing for a year and all of sudden she upstages her Dirty Candy performance with a hologram gimmick. With the parting remark on how "Julie's no friend," Carrie walks away, leaving a regretful Nick in the hallway as the bell rings. (Flying Solo)

(I Got the Music)

Nick comes backstage to see Julie before she's supposed to perform at the school dance. He offers to help her with the hologram projector and discovers that it's unplugged and Julie is holding the end of the cord in her hand. Nick plugs it in and goes onstage to tell the crowd that Julie and the Phantoms are ready to play. After Julie explains that she's having trouble "linking up with the guys" and Carrie invites the crowd to her house to see Dirty Candy perform, Nick offers Carrie a hand to help her down from the stage with a glance at Julie. (The Other Side of Hollywood)

On the day of the dance collaboration between the lacrosse players and the dance class. Nick is still nervous "even after three dance classes" but expresses to Julie that she is his "secret weapon." Julie brushes off the compliment, not really focusing on the interaction because of Luke, who is making fun of Nick. Her distraction continues throughout the dance, calling Nick, "Luke" and imagining Perfect Harmony. By Nick's reaction, the dance went perfectly. (Finally Free)

Carrie invites herself over to the garage party to Nick's dismay. It is implied the Nick and Carrie had relationship problems before, based on her comment of "hearing that before" in reply to Nick's insistence they will not get back together. It's then that she reveals that she is suspicious of "the holograms" of Julie's band, and that Nick shouldn't trust Julie. At some point after the band performs Edge of Great and the end of the party, Nick leaves early. (Edge of Great)

Nick compliments Julie on her performance and tells her that her band is "going to go big." He then apologizes for not staying for the whole set, with the excuse of a lot of homework. Hesitating, Nick asks Julie, whether they could be study partners, to which Julie gently refuses. Nick then asks if she would like to go on a date with him. Julie is surprised and expresses that she is flattered. Nick, already sensing her tone, asks if she likes someone else, to which Julie confirms. He was disappointed at having missed his chance but was accepting of her rejection. (Unsaid Emily)

Nick is shown at the band's Orpheum performance, seemingly enjoying the show. He later brought pink flowers to Julie's house, presumably in support of the band's performance although his full intentions are unknown as he was possessed by Caleb Covington. (Stand Tall)

Personality[]

Nick is known as "a sweetheart" to Julie, even though she hasn't had a real conversation with him according to Flynn (Wake Up). This statement can be relied upon as Nick is shown to be popular in school and well-liked by his classmates and friends. In numerous instances in season one, Nick is shown to be friendly to Julie and Flynn despite Carrie's dislike of them, and even moves to break up with Carrie when he feels her hostility has grown too much.

Trivia[]

  • Nick is a part of the music program at Los Feliz High School.
  • He is also a part of the lacrosse team.
  • It is notable that unlike others of his trope, Nick is both a prominent part of the athletic program as well as the music program without demonstrating any unnecessary drama in being involved in both.
  • Nick is not a good dancer.
  • Nick breaks up with Carrie between The Other Side of Hollywood and Finally Free.
  • In Finally Free, he texts Julie a photoshopped picture of him in a disco outfit, making Julie laugh.
  • In Edge of Great, Nick calls Julie 'Molina,' the only character to casually call her this in conversation.
  • Nick was seen at the Orpheum Performance separate from Julie's family and Trevor and Carrie Wilson.
    • It can be assumed that he heard about the band's performance and went out of his way to get a ticket and support Julie and the band. It's also worth it to note that Julie was not shown noticing his presence.
  • He has appeared in every episode so far along with Alex, Flynn, Julie, Luke, and Reggie.
  • Nick is most likely short for "Nicholas" which is most likely his real name. Ironic enough his counterpart from the original series is Nicolas who basically has the same name as him.
  • Some people theorize that Nick is actually the son of Chad Danforth and Ryan Evans from the High School Musical franchise, which was also directed by Kenny Ortega.
