Jaden Jeremy Shada[1] (born January 21, 1997) also known as Jeremy Shada is an American actor, voice actor, and musician. He portrays Reggie in the Netflix series, Julie and the Phantoms.
Biography[]
Jaden Jeremy Shada was born on January 21, 1997 in Boise, Idaho. He began acting at the age of seven soon after moving to Los Angeles with his family. He has two older brothers, Josh and Zack and they both are actors. He also has a younger sister. He was inspired to act by his older brother Zack Shada, who's an actor himself. Due to his acting career, Shada was homeschooled, having graduated high school in May 2013.
His first live-action theatrical role was as Young Kurt Diamond in No Rules. He has appeared in additional live-action and voice acting roles, such as playing young Charlie Pace in childhood flashbacks on Lost. In 2009, Shada booked the role of Finn in the Cartoon Network series Adventure Time, his older brother Zack Shada having voiced the character 3 years before.
In 2012, Shada joined the cast of Nick Cannon's sketch-comedy series, Incredible Crew. In June 2012, to promote Incredible Crew's 2013 premiere, Cartoon Network released a music rap video titled "Running Errands with My Mom" which features Shada performing and rapping the lyrics. The video has since generated over one million views.
From 2016-2018, Shada voiced Lance for the American animated web television series Voltron: Legendary Defender.
He voiced characters in Team America, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, ParaNorman, Surf’s Up 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Cookie Run: Kingdom. His on-screen credits include Miracle Run and No Rules.
Julie and the Phantoms[]
In June 2019, Shada decided to audition for Julie and the Phantoms, specifically for the role of Reggie Peters. All Shada knew of the potential series and role was from the one scene given in the audition script— that it was "a Netflix show, Kenny Ortega was doing it, and the character would sing and play bass and was really funny." The chance to work with Kenny Ortega and implement musical skills was appealing to Shada.[2]
Unlike other audition processes Shada has experienced which were more lengthy, Shada's first audition was in front of Kenny and the showrunners, Dan Cross and Dave Hoge. After that meeting with them in person, Shada had to sing a song and do the acting scene, and had to sing and play bass at the same time.
Shada performed a rendition of “Youngblood” by 5 Seconds of Summer. He has stated the song was one he enjoyed, and was chosen because it consisted of a cool driving bass line and vocals. A couple of days later, they called Shada to do a call back.[2]
Shada was amongst the 35 other hopefuls who were auditioning for the lead four characters. At some point in the auditioning process, Shada was paired with Owen Joyner and Charlie Gillespie ( Alex and Luke, respectively). At a later time, the trio was paired with Madison Reyes, who would play the titular character, Julie Molina.
